Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2016-02-16) | April 24th, 2016 |
2017-07-25 Past its prime by this point, less than 18 months old. Not much chocolate left. I get bitter coffee and molasses finish. I'll have a 2017 soon to compare. At 1 year old this was still nearly identical to the fresh batch.
2017-04-07 Smoother mouthfeel than the 2017 but coffee has dropped off significantly. I like the 2017 better already and I expect it to smooth out quickly as ot settles in the bottle.

Drank 12 oz of HHG APA by Central Waters Brewing Company (2016-03-16) | April 20th, 2016 |
2016-04-17 Extremely citrusy aroma, huge head with great retention and lacing, slightly orangy amber, tastes of citrus peel.
Drank 12 oz of Cassian Sunset by Central Waters Brewing Company (2016-04-05) | April 19th, 2016 |
2017-03-22 Cinnamon and chocolate at cellar temp, not as smooth as I'd like, has a bit of a bite but very tasty. Bourbon rounded out the edges with some booze and really present in the aroma. I forgot this hat coffee in it until it warmed up and the coffee bitterness came out.
2016-05-23 Smells like hot chocolate at cellar temp. Vanilla and cinnamon come through as it warms.
2016-04-19 Unexpectedly thin mouthfeel. Tastes like ice cream at about 50 degrees. Changes tremendously as it warms. Cinnamon really comes to the fore. Not a strong bourbon presence and the coffee is pretty subtle, other than giving some bitterness at the end.

Drank 12 oz of Barrel Chested by Upland Brewing (2015-10) | April 17th, 2016 |
2017-02-26 It's good. But don't age. Still, CW is better at about the same price...
2017-02-08 OK, not a great candidate for aging. Still OK. It kind of tastes like a barrel aged Old Foghorn. Of course I hadn't had any OF before drinking the other two bottles of Barrel Chested. Has more underlying sweetness. I think the barrel has faded somewhat, or my palate has barrel fatigue. Reasonably priced and solid barleywine.
2016-04-17 Carbonation much less pronounced. Still smells AMAZING (though my sister said it smelled like dill? and caramel). Very dark red, alcohol had a bit of a bite. Still tastes great at 6 months but might not gain anything by age. Only 6 months, though.
2015-12-09 Garnet red, poured with more carbonation and thinner than I expected. Big malty bourbon aroma, much like a bourbon barrel scotch ale. Carbonation not a problem while drinking. Caramel and pecan notes. Delicious, with some heat. Last 1-2 ounces was very different. Smelled purely of whiskey and not much flavor. Like the watery stuff that runs down the sides of a glass of whiskey, or the residue that collects after finishing a glass? Not sure it would age well. Will see.

Drank 12 oz of Totally Naked by New Glarus Brewing Company | April 16th, 2016 |
Drank 341 ml of Equinoxe Du Printemps by Brasserie Dieu du Ciel (2015-03-11) | April 14th, 2016 |
2016-04-14 Pretty good. Nice and smoky. The maple syrup is readily apparent. 9.5% isn't all that high but it drinks like 8%. Extremely turbid, a reddish brown with little head or carbonation. Pleasant malty smell but nothing all that interesting. Overall, a nice wee heavy but nowhere near worth the price.
Drank 750 ml of Squall IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2016-02-24) | April 13th, 2016 |
2016-04-13 So balanced. Reminds me a lot of Avery's Maharaja, though not quite as much of a hop bomb. Very balanced, not particularly bitter. Lost of dregs in the last pour of the 750.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Barleywine by Central Waters Brewing Company (2016-01-14) | April 13th, 2016 |
2018-03-22 This is insanely good. Pure dessert. Hops barely present compared to the 2017 at this point. Not sure how much to attribute to vintage vs. age.
2016-04-13 Drank a bottle with a dessert consisting of butterscotch pudding and homemade shortbread. Really brought out the "American" style. Hops were much more prevalent when consumed with sweeter foods. Still amazing every time.
2016-02-05 Best just below room temperature.
Drank 12 oz of 90 Minute IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2015-11-12) | April 12th, 2016 |
