Keep this one chilled. It's better when refrigerator cold.
Drank 12 oz of Bigfoot by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. (2013-12-10)January 22nd, 2016

It's a massively hopped barleywine. I didn't notice a big difference once it settled in. Pretty good, though, and not terribly expensive. Not hard to justify the cellar space but it's never really going to be at the top of my list of what I want at any given time.

So, so different than the first bottle I drank 9? months ago. No more oily mouthfeel. Very hoppy for a barleywine. Citrusy aroma and lots of citrus hops in the flavor (Sierra Nevada after all...) .Clove and similar spices in the aftertaste. Shared a surprising amount of flavors with the 6-month old 90 minute IPA I had yesterday. Not as sweet as I expect from a barleywine, definitely reminds me of a full-bodied malty IPA.

Drank 12 oz of 90 Minute IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2015-07-14)January 21st, 2016

Ugh, what was I thinking? Failed experiment, unless something dramatic happens with the other 90 minute IPAs I'm sitting on. I don't know what happened with my palate that night that I raved about the 6 month old bottle, but this is in barleywine territory at 1 year. But not a good barleywine. Sweet and bitter, when cold. Not entirely unpleasant but no longer an IPA. I hope the other vintages still pass as IPAs.

So, so good. Better at 6 months old than fresh. Citrusy aroma, got some papaya flavor.
Drank 12 oz of Founders Imperial Stout by Founders Brewing (2014-12-02)January 18th, 2016
2017-01-04
Yeah, pretty good at 2 years but few stand up to Expedition.
2016-04-11
Dark and roasty, molasses. I like this a lot better than their Breakfast Stout (maybe I need to try that one again) but not as much as Expedition Stout. Still a great beer.

Over a year old but doesn't taste much different than fresh. Maybe not worth the cellar space to age this one?
Drank 750 ml of 75 Minute IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2015-10-07)January 17th, 2016

Didn't taste the maple or bourbon at all. A little of the barrel in the nose but very disappointing. Not even that enjoyable as a plain IPA. Might have lost some hoppiness in my cellar but not at all what I expected.
Drank 12 oz of Narwhal Imperial Stout by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. (2015-09-11)January 14th, 2016

Really good RIS. Just below Czar. Can't say it gained much with a year but seems more roasty. Wish the chocolate could come out more.
Drank 12 oz of Skull Splitter by Orkney Brewery (2015-06-17)January 13th, 2016

Best fresh.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout by Central Waters Brewing Company (2015-11-17)January 12th, 2016

Cocoa powder. Held up better than the Scotch Ale, little bourbon left. Doesn't benefit from aging, though.

Yes.

Tried this next to the (very fresh) 2016 and there's no comparison. The 2015 is so mellow and rich and deep. Should be interesting to compare after another year.

Yes. So much flavor. Doesn't have the rick, thick, bite of a RIS but so good. Lots of barrel character. Vanilla in the aroma, chocolate in the flavor. No need to buy Uncle Jacob's Stout anymore.
Drank 12 oz of Old Jubilation Ale by Avery Brewing Company (2015)January 11th, 2016

Didn't care for this one too much. Pretty sweet, tastes a lot like dates and other dried fruit.
Drank 25 oz of Wisconsin Belgian Red by New Glarus Brewing Company (2015)January 10th, 2016
Drank 25 oz of Wisconsin Belgian Red by New Glarus Brewing Company (2015)January 10th, 2016
Drank 750 ml of Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale by Boulevard Brewing Company (2015-07-29)January 8th, 2016

Much better than I expected as I'm not, generally, a fan of the style. The initial taste is much like an American Pale Ale, aftertaste like biting into a grapefruit peel. Exceptional (excessive?) head and retention.
Drank 12 oz of Sheep Shagger by Tyranena Brewing (2015-11)January 7th, 2016
Drank 12 oz of Special Double Cream Stout by Bell's Brewery, Inc. (2015-11-04)January 6th, 2016

Super roast, burnt flavor but not coffee-ish. Velvety mouthfeel. It's fine but I'd rather have a Guinness.
