Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout by Central Waters Brewing Company (2015-11-17)July 23rd, 2017
2020-02-21
Cocoa powder. Held up better than the Scotch Ale, little bourbon left. Doesn't benefit from aging, though.
2017-07-23
Yes.
2016-11-22
Tried this next to the (very fresh) 2016 and there's no comparison. The 2015 is so mellow and rich and deep. Should be interesting to compare after another year.
2016-06-10
Yes. So much flavor. Doesn't have the rick, thick, bite of a RIS but so good. Lots of barrel character. Vanilla in the aroma, chocolate in the flavor. No need to buy Uncle Jacob's Stout anymore.
Drank 12 oz of 120 Minute IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2015-07-22)July 22nd, 2017
2017-07-22
Incredibly bitter and hoppy up front, transitions quickly to raisin/date sweetness. Even after two years the booze smacks you in the face. Undeniably huge flavor. Expensive but is this ever an experience. They're not kidding about aging for a decade. That's what I'll shoot for.
Drank 750 ml of Silouhette - Barrel Aged by Lift Bridge Brewery (2017-01)July 21st, 2017
2018-01-26
Yep.
2017-07-21
Less barrel than I remember on tap at the brewery. I'll be sure to try the next bottle fully chilled. But no residual sweetness, super chocolaty, rich and thick. This is super good stuff.
Drank 12 oz of Old Foghorn by Anchor Brewing (2013-05-12)July 20th, 2017
2017-04-22
Agree with previous assessment. Very fine, unhyped beer & brewery.
2016-10-29
Drank at cellar temp without cooling it at all, really sweet. Rich dried apricot sweetness, almost a port. No heat, very smooth.
2016-09-07
Very good classic barleywine. Has a bite at cooler temps so let it warm a bit. Great buy at 3 years old.
Drank 12 oz of Backwoods Bastard by Founders Brewing (2015-10-06)July 19th, 2017
2017-11-03
Still good, maybe not as balanced as it could be. Smokier, burnt caramel, enough bourbon but not a bomb. More barrel than bourbon.
2017-05-30
Lost about all the bourbon in the flavor. I expected it to be smoother by now but it's still quite boozy. Very sweet, in a good way, though.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale by Central Waters Brewing Company (2015-08-06)July 18th, 2017
2020-02-20
Held up remarkably well, much better than the 2016 I opened the same night. Rich malty depth and retains more barrel than bourbon. Still, it showed its age, not a beer that needs cellaring. Sad to see CW let this one go.
2017-07-18
I like it chilled a bit, now, but not 44 degrees or anything. As good as it gets for me.
2016-08-27
The best.
2016-05-19
This is just my favorite beer. So rich and sweet, but not alcohol sweet. Smooth and delicious.
2016-05-04
Bourbon had faded significantly after 9 months. It's still there but more in the background. It's smoother overall but I really liked the big bourbon presence.
Drank 330 ml of Rum Finish by Innis & GunnJuly 18th, 2017
2017-07-14
I could definitely taste the rum tonight, I didn't detect it at all yesterday. Seemed more lagery yesterday, too. Maybe depends on the food. Still smells like a lager. Nice balanced malty sweetness with a lot of depth. I'm starting to like it more but I don't see it as a regular option.
Drank 12 oz of Dragon's Milk Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout by New Holland Brewing Company (2015-08-31)July 17th, 2017
2017-11-09
You know, it's still pretty good this time. Chocolate abounds and the barrel is still there. Has some legs yet.
2017-10-17
The bourbon is back but it's not balanced particularly well anymore. Seems to be past its prime. Don't go past 2 years with this one in the future for sure.
2017-07-17
Definitely smoothed out after nearly two years. Lost a lot of the bourbon, though, and the chocolate has gone over to the dark side. Still really good. Hard to say I liked it before because it is plenty smooth now.
2016-10-30
Really tasty. Has a bite that I'd like to see smooth out, it's already a year old. Otherwise, it stacks up well against CW's BB stout. Pricey, though.
Drank 12 oz of Wulver by Thirsty Dog Brewing (2015)July 16th, 2017
2018-02-06
Yeah. Well past it's prime. All the same flavors are there but it's messed up now. About a year of aging seems right. Don't sit on this one for too long.
2016-05-15
Amazing this time. Humongous barrel character. Incredible vanilla. This time was as good as any other BB scotch ale I've had. They're crazy to say 43 degrees, though. Doesn't come alive below 55.
2015-12-31
CAUTION, GUSHER!!! A bit thin but plenty of depth. Ignore suggestion to drink at 43 degrees. Heavy whiskey flavor. 11 months in the barrel can do that. Could mellow out with some time.

What even is an Imperial Porter? Modern porters are basically just lower ABV stouts, at 11.5% this is what, a triple Porter, which comes out to an Imperial Stout? I don't know. It's really sweet, and not in a way I like. Velvety mouthfeel and chocolate flavors are a huge plus but just too sweet. Roasty bite came out more as it warmed and counterbalanced the sweetness but come on. It's basically Founder's Imperial Stout with a ton of extra residual sugars. I tried it, but not a big deal to me.
