Not loving this, still...

Not bad, not great

From August 2018 and still tastes fine, if not better. Not as much bitterness as I remember, which I’m happy about.

So much coffee. Not sure this has changed much in 3 years. The cinnamon just ends up adding a butter finish.

Did a side by side with 2019 Café de Olla and 2020 Special #4. In the end, they’re both fantastic, but the Café de Olla wins. Thankfully, the cassia bark aka cinnamon has calmed down in the Café de Olla.

Coffee in this is tasting really nice. I still hope they go back to a coffee only BA stout, but this is good. The base also shines through with a lot of dark chocolate and malt.

This seems like it has changed a bit since being fresh. Overwhelming amount of rich, dark chocolate and malt with just a hint of the coffee, orange and cinnamon.

Lots of coffee up from that gives way to the acidity of the orange peel and spice of the cassia bark. The finish is dark roasted malt, that leads into dark chocolate and heat. Still prefer 2015/6 coffee over any subsequent release so far.

Tastes ever so subtly different from the regular BCBS. Hard to put a finger of the flavors it imparts. Definitely more heat. Tasting it side by side with a 15 year Knob Creek bourbon. BC tastes sweeter after a sip of the KC. Solid but not worth the price.

Still lots of mildly bitter cherry. Not my favorite BC, but still good.

Has definitely changed a little in the last year. Cherry is still forward, but not overpowering and not too sweet. The dark chocolate and malt come in powerfully after the cherry and linger through the finish, with a little hint of the cherry on the back.

The cherry flavors kind of resemble similar notes to aged BCBS, but with a bit more sweetness and a touch of tartness. While not my favorite variant, it’s pretty solid.

Pours super dark. Punch of vanilla on the nose and palette. The finish adds coffee and roasted malt. The vanilla remains as well, but is a bit more muted at the end. Only a slight bitterness, which isn’t offensive. First thing I’ve liked from Mikkeller.

Super smooth, complex, boozy, chocolatey, and delicious. Left it a bit warmer than usual and that allows the flavors I love to shine right away.

8 year vertical

Mmmm. Welcome back my old friend. This is the BC I fell in love with but haven’t had since 2014. Dark, malty, bourbony booziness. Yum

Held up really well despite most carbonation being gone.

Sadly there’s not much left to this after 9 years. Just a hint of tartness from the cherries on the finish.

Reminded us of a barleywine. Aged pretty well over 11 years.

Still plenty of carbonation. Lots of fine sediment in the side, how it was resting. Plenty of malt flavor still left.

Very light, sweet and fruity.

This hasn’t lost much of anything, save a little vanilla.

Don’t taste any coffee on this one any longer. The 2019 I had earlier was much better.

Good this year, though I’m less tolerant each year of the bitterness. If they reduced that, it would likely still be in my top 5.

Really good. Lots of coffee at the front, followed by tons of dark chocolate. No loss of flavor after 1 year.

Loads of dark chocolate with a hint of coffee. Finish is roasted malt and lingering dark chocolate. Held up well.

Really good until the very end when bitterness sets in and becomes the only thing lingering on the palette.

Really interesting. Bold malty flavor, softened by the brandy and made slightly sharp by the whiskey. Sweetness from the figs and dates.

Still very sweet after 4 years. Same smokiness I tasted last year when I opened one. Nice roastiness on the finish.

Gained a Smokey character.

Wow. Nice and boozy, sweetness from the bourbon and maple syrup. Nice dark malty finish and oh so smooth. Really good.

This is really holding up very well. Lots of barrel, smooth/silky mouthfeel, and lots of chocolate and roasted malt.
