Drank 12 oz of KBS Espresso by Founders Brewing (2019-11-14) | May 8th, 2020 |
2020-05-08 Lots of dark coffee and malt. Overpowers the usual KBS flavors.
2019-12-17 The nose has some coffee, the taste seems like they used coffee during the brewing process instead of adding it. Bitter comes At the end.
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2019-02-13) | May 6th, 2020 |
2020-05-29 Really good. Lots of coffee at the front, followed by tons of dark chocolate. No loss of flavor after 1 year.
2020-05-06 Loads of dark chocolate with a hint of coffee. Finish is roasted malt and lingering dark chocolate. Held up well.
2019-03-16 Really good until the very end when bitterness sets in and becomes the only thing lingering on the palette.
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2018-02-26) | May 5th, 2020 |
2020-05-05 This hasn’t lost much of anything, save a little vanilla.
2020-04-12 Don’t taste any coffee on this one any longer. The 2019 I had earlier was much better.
2018-03-30 Good this year, though I’m less tolerant each year of the bitterness. If they reduced that, it would likely still be in my top 5.
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2017-02-27) | May 4th, 2020 |
2021-08-11 Loss of chocolate and a hint of coffee. Has held up quite well.
2020-08-22 Gave to Stan Soroka as thank you for bourbon samples (Red Breast and New Riff)
2020-05-04 Starting to taste like KBS. I THINK 4 years is the longest without losing too much, but fresh is still best. Not much coffee left. Mostly roasted malt.
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2016-02-12) | May 4th, 2020 |
2024-02-18 Lots of coffee and dark chocolate. Definitely taste the age, but still enjoyable.
2022-11-30 Definitely taste the age. Still tons of coffee. Best fresh.
2020-05-04 This was their off year. I will say while it wasn’t good overall, it seems to have held up to where it was back then. Still best fresh.
2020-01-18 Either this was the off year or this didn’t hold up well. Flavors aren’t right. Maybe it will improve as it warms.
2018-04-16 2 years later, it still hasn't improved much.
2018-01-06 Slightly better than it was when fresh, but still not up to the standards of other years.
2017-04-05 It now has a year on it and hasn't improved much. This year's is fantastic; 2016 still is not.
2016-09-08 Still not any better. I think this year's batch will need 2-3 years before it tastes decent.
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2015) | May 4th, 2020 |
2020-05-04 Only trace hints of coffee left. Dark chocolate and malt are predominate. Fresh is still best. Got 2016-2109 lined up after this.
2018-04-16 Really good. Nice and smooth. No hints of vanilla left.
Drank 12 oz of Tweak (Bourbon Barrel) by Avery Brewing Company (2016-01-25) | May 3rd, 2020 |
2020-05-03 Tons of chocolate. Not much coffee left. Boozy and good.
2018-09-08 Still super boozy. Celebrating my 2018 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport
2016-05-19 Wow. This blows KBS out of the water. I need to get more of this. Was hesitant because I hate Uncle Jacob, but this is great!
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2014) | May 3rd, 2020 |
2020-05-03 This doesn’t take like KBS anymore. The only things I taste are dark chocolate and malt, but not the way it was and not in a good way. The coffee is long gone. There’s almost a soapiness to it at first. KBS is best fresh.
2018-04-16 Flavors tapered off over time. Still good, but it has lost something.
Drank 16 oz of How Now Brown Cow w/ Peanut Butter, Coffee & Chocolate by Aslin Beer Company (2019) | May 2nd, 2020 |
2020-05-02 Not loving this, still...
2019-12-20 Not bad, not great
Drank 16 oz of Julius by Tree House Brewing Company (2018-08-14) | May 2nd, 2020 |
2020-05-02 From August 2018 and still tastes fine, if not better. Not as much bitterness as I remember, which I’m happy about.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Café de Olla Stout by Goose Island Beer Co. (2019-08-08) | May 1st, 2020 |
2022-12-22 So much coffee. Not sure this has changed much in 3 years. The cinnamon just ends up adding a butter finish.
2022-02-26 Did a side by side with 2019 Café de Olla and 2020 Special #4. In the end, they’re both fantastic, but the Café de Olla wins. Thankfully, the cassia bark aka cinnamon has calmed down in the Café de Olla.
2021-07-30 Coffee in this is tasting really nice. I still hope they go back to a coffee only BA stout, but this is good. The base also shines through with a lot of dark chocolate and malt.
2020-10-29 This seems like it has changed a bit since being fresh. Overwhelming amount of rich, dark chocolate and malt with just a hint of the coffee, orange and cinnamon.
2020-05-01 Lots of coffee up from that gives way to the acidity of the orange peel and spice of the cassia bark. The finish is dark roasted malt, that leads into dark chocolate and heat. Still prefer 2015/6 coffee over any subsequent release so far.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Reserve Brand Stout by Goose Island Beer Co. (2017-07-24) | April 26th, 2020 |
2020-04-26 Tastes ever so subtly different from the regular BCBS. Hard to put a finger of the flavors it imparts. Definitely more heat. Tasting it side by side with a 15 year Knob Creek bourbon. BC tastes sweeter after a sip of the KC. Solid but not worth the price.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Mon Chéri Stout by Goose Island Beer Co. (2019-08-25) | April 25th, 2020 |
2023-05-28 Still lots of mildly bitter cherry. Not my favorite BC, but still good.
2020-11-15 Has definitely changed a little in the last year. Cherry is still forward, but not overpowering and not too sweet. The dark chocolate and malt come in powerfully after the cherry and linger through the finish, with a little hint of the cherry on the back.
2020-04-25 The cherry flavors kind of resemble similar notes to aged BCBS, but with a bit more sweetness and a touch of tartness. While not my favorite variant, it’s pretty solid.
Drank 16 oz of Vanilla Shake by Mikkeller (2019-03-05) | April 23rd, 2020 |
2020-04-23 Pours super dark. Punch of vanilla on the nose and palette. The finish adds coffee and roasted malt. The vanilla remains as well, but is a bit more muted at the end. Only a slight bitterness, which isn’t offensive. First thing I’ve liked from Mikkeller.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Stout (2018) by Goose Island Beer Co. (2018-10-04) | April 19th, 2020 |
2023-12-10 Bourbon County Vertical 2023
2023-06-16 Still really great. Lots of rich, dark chocolate with a hint of booziness and sweetness.
2022-12-04 Bourbon County Vertical 2022
2021-12-12 Bourbon County Vertical 2021
2021-02-07 Super smooth, complex, boozy, chocolatey, and delicious. Left it a bit warmer than usual and that allows the flavors I love to shine right away.
2020-12-05 Vertical 2020
2020-05-30 Very dark, lots of dark chocolate and sweetness. I think this one was best fresh.
2019-12-08 8 year vertical
2018-12-15 Mmmm. Welcome back my old friend. This is the BC I fell in love with but haven’t had since 2014. Dark, malty, bourbony booziness. Yum |
