Drank 22 oz of Grand Amber Barleywine (Brandy Barrel Aged) by Potosi Brewing Company (2016) | March 24th, 2018 |
2018-03-24 Eh. Can't detect the barrel. Very sweet with a dry, hoppy character. It's nice. Not worth the price by any means. I've been disappointed by Potosi's barrel aged beers. No better than average.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Barleywine by Central Waters Brewing Company (2016-01-14) | March 22nd, 2018 |
2018-03-22 This is insanely good. Pure dessert. Hops barely present compared to the 2017 at this point. Not sure how much to attribute to vintage vs. age.
2016-04-13 Drank a bottle with a dessert consisting of butterscotch pudding and homemade shortbread. Really brought out the "American" style. Hops were much more prevalent when consumed with sweeter foods. Still amazing every time.
2016-02-05 Best just below room temperature.
Drank 12 oz of 120 Minute IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2016-04-08) | March 21st, 2018 |
2020-02-01 Better than the last one but I completely regret going in on this so many times.
2020-01-26 Very different this time. Raisiny and weirdly sweet. Same over-the-top hop character, didn't meld with the malt sweetness. I'm still regretting how many of these I bought but this one is not good. Others had some redeeming qualities.
2018-03-21 I noticed the viscosity, as much as anything else, this time. One participant compared it to whiskey. Intense and sweet. The original palate wrecker. Not an IPA by modern standards, not quite a barleywine, just a smooth hoppy strong ale. I might let it age one more year before opening another.
Drank 12 oz of Old Stock Ale 2016 by North Coast Brewing Co. (2016-05) | March 20th, 2018 |
2018-03-20 The 2016 is off. Not off flavors, just not where it should be.
2018-02-18 Very subtle, hard to believe it's 11.5%. Better than the last time but still disappointing. I need to try another vintage.
2018-01-17 Hmm, yeasty, a bit nutty nowhere near as good as I remember.
Drank 500 ml of R&D Golden Ale by New Glarus Brewing Company (2015-08-01) | March 20th, 2018 |
2018-03-20 Likely past its prime. Tasted soapy. Extremely carbonated which would be fine if it tasted better. My previous notes said refreshing and sour. This isn't either. Totally my fault for letting it sit almost 3 years.
2016-06-09 Very refreshing and drinkable. Very pale with lots of white head. After 10 months the Brett yeast is showing up with its unique brand of sour, although I haven't tasted a younger bottle for comparison. Reminds me of a saison in some ways. I'll let the other bottle sit for at least another few months.
Drank 12 oz of Plaid Panther by Hop Haus Brewing Company | March 19th, 2018 |
2018-03-04 Smoky. Caramely but not too sweet. Really drinkable at 8%. It's a win for the wee heavy.
Drank 12 oz of Exalted IPA by Stone Brewing (2018-02-06) | March 18th, 2018 |
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout by Central Waters Brewing Company (2016-11-04) | March 17th, 2018 |
2017-10-19 Like bourbon soaked cocoa powder. As good as I've ever had it.
2017-06-12 It's nearly perfect. I wouldn't mind a little more viscosity but no complaints other than that. If it's truly 9.5% this is a marvel. And much better than the other 2016 batch. I can't remember which one I gave to Jen, I hope it was this one.
2017-03-25 Wow. Chocolate much? So much richer than when fresh. Bourbon has mellowed a bit but more chocolate roast. Very, very nice.
2017-03-01 Shared 3 ways, we each had a small pour. Drank with berries and cookies. I noticed more coffee flavors than I ever have with this brew. Holds up well against competing sour and sweet flavors. Best on its own, though.
Drank 12 oz of Thumbprint Cran-bic by New Glarus Brewing Company (2018-01) | March 17th, 2018 |
2018-06-30 Has definitely hit its stride. Really nice right now.
2018-01-27 Coming out funky early this year.

Drank 12 oz of Old Stock Ale 2012 by North Coast Brewing Co. | March 14th, 2018 |
2018-03-14 This is what I remember, the 2016 is weak by comparison.
2016-03-26 Still surprisingly carbonated. Dried fruit flavors are even more intense than the 2014 but not overwhelming.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout by Central Waters Brewing Company (2017-10-17) | March 13th, 2018 |
2017-12-06 Cocoa powder. Less bourbon than I remember from the other bottle, wouldn't mind a little more. It also needs another month, at least, to settle in the bottle. But maybe the best vintage that I can remember.
2017-11-24 The 2016 took a few months to get this good. This one is ready to go out of the gate. Chocolate bomb on the nose and tongue. Some coffee at the backend, too. More than I remember in other vintages. This is simply great. Reaffirms that I don't _need_ any other barrel stout.
