Drank 330 ml of Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock by Private Weissbierbrauerei G. Schneider & Sohn GmbH (2016-09-14) | May 12th, 2018 |
2018-05-12 Tastes like sherry. Sweet, foamy, tolerable wheatness. Another option for a winter beer to warm you up.
Drank 12 oz of Velveteen Habit by Ale Asylum (2018-04-19) | May 11th, 2018 |
2018-05-25 It's fine but too much caramel from the malt. Reminds me of Founders Azacca IPA. Balance is one thing but it's an IPA, man.
Drank 12 oz of Old Chub by Oskar Blues Brewery | May 10th, 2018 |
2018-05-14 All caramel and smoke. Not ideally fresh but I expected it to not be a problem for this one at 4 months old. Has a little of that "old beer" quality. I remember liking it better before. Will have to revisit in some form.
Drank 12 oz of Expedition Stout by Bell's Brewery, Inc. (2015-10-16) | May 9th, 2018 |
2020-03-14 Still fantastic. No drop-off but my preference center's around the three year mark. Barrel-aged is great but not what I want all the time. Perfect with beef stew.
2018-07-23 Nearly 3 years old and this is in it's prime.
2016-10-19 Yep, this is my definition of Russian Imperial Stout.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Barleywine by Central Waters Brewing Company (2016-01-14) | May 8th, 2018 |
2018-03-22 This is insanely good. Pure dessert. Hops barely present compared to the 2017 at this point. Not sure how much to attribute to vintage vs. age.
2016-04-13 Drank a bottle with a dessert consisting of butterscotch pudding and homemade shortbread. Really brought out the "American" style. Hops were much more prevalent when consumed with sweeter foods. Still amazing every time.
2016-02-05 Best just below room temperature.
Drank 12 oz of Old Chub by Oskar Blues Brewery | May 7th, 2018 |
2018-05-14 All caramel and smoke. Not ideally fresh but I expected it to not be a problem for this one at 4 months old. Has a little of that "old beer" quality. I remember liking it better before. Will have to revisit in some form.
Drank 22 oz of Murderous by Pipeworks Brewing Company (2017-03-20) | May 6th, 2018 |
2018-05-06 Really good. Not sticky or syrupy but it's only 9.5%. It's delicious. Smells like figs, tastes like brown sugar. Worth the wait. I'd buy this again.
Drank 12 oz of Olde School Barleywine by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2017-01-18) | May 5th, 2018 |
2019-12-03 Now it's really really good. Wish I had waited a little longer to open the first couple of bottles. Then I'd plan to drink them this winter. I guess it could get better, but it's really nice now.
2019-08-09 I can drink it with tacos. Certainly not the most optimal pairing but they're both still good even if they have completely separate flavor profiles. It's sweet. That's mostly what I'm getting this time. It's good, doesn't beat you over the head with hops.
2019-01-09 Now it tastes good. Alcohol heat is gone, leaving behind raisin, date, fig, sweetness. Incredibly deceiving 15% now, I would guess 11%. However, as pleasant as it is I don't long for a beer that tastes like this. I don't avoid eating food or brushing my teeth afterwards in order to continue enjoying the aftertaste. It's as good as any naked barleywine I've ever had, but can't aspire to the same heights as one aged in spirit barrels.
2018-05-05 Still plenty of alcohol heat. Not a dramatic amount of flavor for 15%. I guess I'll give it another year but I'm underwhelmed. Why do I keep trying stuff that isn't Central Waters?
Drank 16 oz of Daisy Cutter Pale Ale by Half Acre Beer Company (2018-03-08) | May 2nd, 2018 |
2018-04-28 One of my favorite pale ales that I've tried. Has a nice grassy hop quality, not too aggressive but plenty of flavor and aroma. A little pricier than I'd prefer for a four pack of this level of beer. Still, I like it better than Zombie Dust or Pseudo Sue.
Drank 375 ml of Krieky Bones by Firestone Walker Brewing Co. (2017-06-19) | May 1st, 2018 |
2018-05-01 Big cherry flavor, right balance of sour/tart. Barely noticeable acetone. I could gulp this one down. Sadly, it's too expensive at $12. Come on guys, really? Would love to have this regularly (if it weren't limited availability) but I'm not paying that again.
Drank 12 oz of Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale by Central Waters Brewing Company (2017-07-18) | April 30th, 2018 |
2020-01-28 Holds up well but doesn't particularly benefit from ageing. Tastes the same as the 2018, which is to say excellent.
2017-12-10 Unknown date of consumption. Forgot to record an entry somewhere.
2017-08-02 Different than any previous year I remember. Smells like straight up whiskey, tastes like burnt caramel. It's not unpleasant but doesn't have the malty sweet richness I love. It's fresh, though. Needs some time to settle.
Drank 22 oz of Brewhouse Coffee Stout by Central Waters Brewing Company | April 29th, 2018 |
2017-01-08 Don't miss this release again. Great coffee flavor without the bitterness. Very drinkable and 8.2% abv.
Drank 12 oz of Strawberry Rhubarb by New Glarus Brewing Company | April 28th, 2018 |
2021-10-23 Whoa, is something wrong with this batch? Tastes like overripe strawberries this time.
Drank 16 oz of Daisy Cutter Pale Ale by Half Acre Beer Company (2018-03-08) | April 28th, 2018 |
Drank 12 oz of The Waldos' Special Ale by Lagunitas Brewing Company (2018-03-24) | April 27th, 2018 |
2018-04-22 The fresher the better for this. It's already dropped off in juiciness and the alcohol burn is more present compared to the first bottle I had.
2018-04-12 Intensely hoppy. Even more than Enjoy By. 11+% is too much for an IPA but it is really good. |
