Drank 12 oz of Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout by North Coast Brewing Co. (2015-12-21) | November 11th, 2016 |
2016-11-11 Not sure about this experiment of aging Rasputin. Doesn't seem to gain anything from the time, definitely loses something. Kind of just tastes like cold Postum right now. Shouldn't be surprising, considering the ingredients of each brew. Also reminds me of old Guinness Extra Stout. Two beers that shouldn't be aged, apparently. One bottle left, will see if anything changes.
Drank 12 oz of Puff by Sixpoint Craft Ales | November 11th, 2016 |
2016-11-15 After four cans I'm ready to make my decision. I'm putting this in the category of don't drink again, not that good. Alcohol shows up way too much. I've had plenty of 9-10% IIPAs that weren't this sweet. Malt is way out of balance. The hop profile is pretty good, pleasantly bitter with musty, earthy, floral flavors. Great aroma and otherwise enjoyable but not worth the price or the alcohol. I'll take a NvU any day. Same price, more beer, less alcohol.

Drank 12 oz of Backwoods Bastard by Founders Brewing (2016-09-22) | November 9th, 2016 |
2017-03-15 Wow, finally, 6 months after bottling it's finally starting to taste right. That weird, hoppy? flavor has faded and it's sweet and boozy and carmely and buttery.
2016-12-10 Something's wrong this year. Last year was as good as any barrel aged wee heavy on the market. This year has a bitter bite the destroys the carmely sweetness. Can't believe I bought so much this year instead of last year.
Drank 375 ml of Simcoe Sour by Almanac Beer Co. (2015-09-03) | November 8th, 2016 |
2016-11-08 When you're in the mood for a sour AND and IPA. This one was fantastic. Some sours take too much pleasure in how sour and vinegar-y they can be but this is very refreshing and drinkable. Hoppy at the same time. Even after a year of aging. I'll have to try this fresh sometime, too. Would buy again. Pricey, though.
Drank 500 ml of Bourbon County Brand Stout by Goose Island Beer Co. (2015-11-09) | November 7th, 2016 |
2016-11-07 Yum. Viscous, deep, rich, decadent, intoxicating. Everything I want from a RIS. Wish they'd put out the base beer, too.
Drank 12 oz of Curmudgeon by Founders Brewing (2015-01-13) | November 6th, 2016 |
2017-01-21 It's pretty good. Even getting some chocolate at this point, which is surprising. It's rich and flavorful. I need to have an Old Stock soon to compare.
2016-11-06 Almost two years on this bottle and it's just starting to taste like Old Stock Ale. Just go with Old Stock.
Drank 16 oz of Blood Of The Unicorn by Pipeworks Brewing Company (2016-09-20) | November 6th, 2016 |
2016-11-06 Much better out of the IPA glass but still not my kind of beer.
2016-10-10 As advertised, a "Hoppy Red Ale". It's fine but NvU is so much better.
Drank 12 oz of Harvest Ale by Founders Brewing (2016-10-03) | November 4th, 2016 |
2016-10-30 Tried it in my IPA glass, a little smoother. Probably a good IPA but I don't like this flavor profile.
2016-10-27 Not my kind of IPA. It's fine for what it is but don't buy again.
Drank 12 oz of Breakfast Stout by Founders Brewing (2016-08-12) | November 3rd, 2016 |
2016-11-03 Tried it again, I may be coming around to coffee beers somewhat but this is still too much for me. Very drinkable, but I don't care for the coffee bitterness in this one.
Drank 16 oz of Blood Of The Unicorn by Pipeworks Brewing Company (2016-09-20) | November 2nd, 2016 |
2016-11-06 Much better out of the IPA glass but still not my kind of beer.
2016-10-10 As advertised, a "Hoppy Red Ale". It's fine but NvU is so much better.
Drank 22 oz of We're 2 by Storm Peak Brewing Co. | November 1st, 2016 |
2016-11-01 The malty finish took some getting used to but I wish I had another bottle or two to try. Massively hoppy, obviously, but not overwhelmingly bitter considering 100 IBU. 8.9% is pretty reasonable for this amount of flavor.
Drank 12 oz of Siberian Night Imperial Stout by Thirsty Dog Brewing | October 31st, 2016 |
2016-10-31 Good solid RIS.
2016-07-26 Thick, dark pour with brown, grey head. Coffee grounds and chocolate. Pretty good. Reminds me of Old Rasputin.
Drank 12 oz of Dragon's Milk Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout by New Holland Brewing Company (2015-08-31) | October 30th, 2016 |
2017-11-09 You know, it's still pretty good this time. Chocolate abounds and the barrel is still there. Has some legs yet.
2017-10-17 The bourbon is back but it's not balanced particularly well anymore. Seems to be past its prime. Don't go past 2 years with this one in the future for sure.
2017-07-17 Definitely smoothed out after nearly two years. Lost a lot of the bourbon, though, and the chocolate has gone over to the dark side. Still really good. Hard to say I liked it before because it is plenty smooth now.
2016-10-30 Really tasty. Has a bite that I'd like to see smooth out, it's already a year old. Otherwise, it stacks up well against CW's BB stout. Pricey, though.
Drank 12 oz of Harvest Ale by Founders Brewing (2016-10-03) | October 30th, 2016 |
2016-10-30 Tried it in my IPA glass, a little smoother. Probably a good IPA but I don't like this flavor profile.
2016-10-27 Not my kind of IPA. It's fine for what it is but don't buy again. |
