Drank 22 oz of Really Old Brown Dog Ale by Smuttynose Brewing Co. (2012) | September 27th, 2017 |
2018-04-25 Still excellent carbonation. A bit of oxidation, but just enough that it's pleasant and gained a bit of complexity over the last one I'd tried. Still a great beer at 6 years.
2017-09-27 Same notes as before, even more head actually.
2017-04-12 1 finger head (still), clear deep amber. A bit of sediment. Molasses, brown sugar, and a bit of booze. Still nice at ~5 years.
2016-11-16 Past prime. Perhaps drink others more quickly.
Drank Big RICC by Tallgrass Brewing Co. (2015-09-24) | September 14th, 2017 |
2017-09-14 Small head, leaves a ring of bubbles around the edge. Thickish. Floaties (solidish). Smell of chocolate. Taste is still chocolatey, both added and malt, and some coffee. Still pretty flavorful for 2 year old additive stout. Just a hint of dried fruit/cherry flavor from aging. Tasty chocolatey finish.
2017-03-24 1 finger head. Not oil thick, but not thin. Medium body. Bubbles linger around the edge. Scent is lightly mocha. Taste is subdued coffee and chocolate, a little dried dark fruit flavor--raisins, dates. Coffee and chocolate have definitely worn, however a bit more complexity now. Tasty. Finish is mostly dried fruit, a hint of bitter chocolate.
Drank 22 oz of Dark Noon by Big Muddy Brewing (2017-05) | August 31st, 2017 |
Drank Olde School Barleywine by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2017-01) | July 24th, 2017 |
2017-07-24 Clear mber/brown with a one finger head. Caramel, brown sugar, fig, hop bitterness scent. Bitter, booze, brown sugar, molasses, fig/date. Boozy finish. Very tasty, but definitely age from now on. Aged bottle I had was better.
Drank 12 oz of 30th Anniversary Ale by Bell's Brewery, Inc. (2015-10) | July 22nd, 2017 |
2017-07-22 It still pours with a beautiful copper head and retained some bubbles throughout drinking. Scent is sweet malty, chocolate, with a hint of fruity esters. Taste is chocolate, that fruity, dried black cherry ester flavor, a bit of roast (which was more prevalent fresh), and a just a hint of hop presence. Creamy mouthfeel, perfect carbonation, and a chocolatey finish.
Drank 12 oz of The Sixth Glass by Boulevard Brewing Company (2015-05-30) | June 30th, 2017 |
Drank 22 oz of Backwoods Monster by Big Muddy Brewing (2016) | June 28th, 2017 |
2017-06-28 Deep brown, with a thin layer of head.Bubbles linger around the edge of the glass. Delightful brown sugar and bourbon aromas. Taste is some brown sugar, molasses, and bourbon. Not nearly as strong as fresh. Fairly clean finish. Fresh was boozy, perhaps age 6 months next time. Some nice lacing.
Drank 12 oz of Smoke by O'Fallon Brewery (2015-12) | June 14th, 2017 |
2017-06-14 Mostly just smoke. A faint hint of malty sweetness. Not a ton of smoke left, but just right amount, but not much else. Drank early to make room for better aging beer.
2017-03-31 Not a lot of malt flavors, mostly just smoke that has faded significantly since last year. Tasty, but not too complex.
Drank 22 oz of Imperial Stout by Smuttynose Brewing Co. (2015-02) | June 5th, 2017 |
2017-06-05 1 finger head, bubbles linger. Definite hop presence even after 27 months. A bit of chocolate malt, hop bitterness, and dried dark fruit. Really a nice, complex stout.
2017-01-20 Nearly two years old. Black but not thick. Still has a nice head, half a finger and bubbles that stick around. Scent is gentle malty sweetness with a hint of cocoa. Taste is subtle coffee, chocolate covered raisins. Hops seem to be gone, but there is a faint bitterness still. Slightly sweet, coffee finish. Very nice, age has done this beer well.
Drank Belgian Tripel by Smuttynose Brewing Co. (2015-06) | May 20th, 2017 |

Drank 22 oz of Barleywine Style Ale by Smuttynose Brewing Co. (2013) | March 4th, 2017 |
2018-03-15 Notes similar to a year ago, although head is big with beautiful lacing. 5 years old with seemingly no carbonation lost. Wonderfully complex, perfectly balanced American barleywine. A little bitterness, a little sweetness, a lot of complexity. Only one more and I'll truly be sad when they're gone.
2017-03-04 Deep amber, clear, with a one-finger head. A nice layer of bubbles linger. Brown sugar, caramel, toffee aromas. Taste is toffee, brown sugar, caramel, dried black cherries, molasses, a hint of vanilla, and a bit of resiny hop bitterness still remains. No cardboard or signs of oxidation. Finish is just a bit boozy. Mouthfeel is smooth, carbonation hasn't hardly fallen off at all.

2017-03-01 Black with a two finger head that lasts.Bubbles around the rim all the way. Scent is malty sweet with a bit of roast. Taste is similar. A hint of cardboard. Dried dark fruits. No hops noticeable. Finish is roasty with dark fruits. |
