Drank 12 oz of Pecans in Paradise by Prairie Artisan Ales (2023-06-02) | July 12th, 2023 |
2023-07-12 This is probably one of the best beers I’ve had from Prairie. The pecan flavor is pronounced in a good way. Then you get sweet flavors of coconut and vanilla, followed by booziness from the barrel. Very well balanced.
Drank 12 oz of 120 Minute IPA Aged in Utopias Barrels by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (2023) | July 9th, 2023 |
2024-02-15 Really great depth of flavor on this and the Utopias barrel definitely comes through. Cant wait to see how this transforms over time.
2023-07-09 This is really good. Great flavor, lots of booziness, hint of sweetness, not too much bitterness. Can’t wait to see how this ages.
Drank 12 oz of KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2018-02-26) | July 3rd, 2023 |
2020-05-05 This hasn’t lost much of anything, save a little vanilla.
2020-04-12 Don’t taste any coffee on this one any longer. The 2019 I had earlier was much better.
2018-03-30 Good this year, though I’m less tolerant each year of the bitterness. If they reduced that, it would likely still be in my top 5.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Stout (2020) by Goose Island Beer Co. (2020-09-22) | July 1st, 2023 |
2025-01-26 This one has not held up as well as others. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and while there’s barrel left on it, there’s a hint of bitterness as well. Hoping it gets better as it warms.
2024-08-10 With Phil in Colorado during steak night.
2023-12-10 Bourbon County Vertical 2023
2023-07-01 Not my favorite year, but crazy depth of flavor and very boozy.
2022-12-04 Bourbon County Vertical 2022
2021-12-12 Bourbon County Vertical 2021
2021-03-19 Tons of dark chocolate, malt, and bourbon goodness. Decadent and rich.
2020-12-05 Vertical 2020
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Classic Cola Stout (2021) by Goose Island Beer Co. (2021-08-10) | June 22nd, 2023 |
2024-12-08 Bourbon County Vertical 2024
2023-06-22 This has good much richer in intensity of flavor, and particularly the cola, which I felt was incredibly subtle when fresh. I still don’t think it’s worth $1 more than the base and it’s still not my favorite.
2022-06-26 Better than I remember when trying it fresh. The cola is still subtle, but it’s a nice variation on the base. I still do taste a bit of orange, but the finish differs from Midnight Orange, in that there’s no chocolate. Not my favorite, but still decent.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Stout (2018) by Goose Island Beer Co. (2018-10-04) | June 16th, 2023 |
2023-12-10 Bourbon County Vertical 2023
2023-06-16 Still really great. Lots of rich, dark chocolate with a hint of booziness and sweetness.
2022-12-04 Bourbon County Vertical 2022
2021-12-12 Bourbon County Vertical 2021
2021-02-07 Super smooth, complex, boozy, chocolatey, and delicious. Left it a bit warmer than usual and that allows the flavors I love to shine right away.
2020-12-05 Vertical 2020
2020-05-30 Very dark, lots of dark chocolate and sweetness. I think this one was best fresh.
2019-12-08 8 year vertical
2018-12-15 Mmmm. Welcome back my old friend. This is the BC I fell in love with but haven’t had since 2014. Dark, malty, bourbony booziness. Yum
Drank 12 oz of Cassian Sunset by Central Waters Brewing Company (2018) | June 3rd, 2023 |
2024-07-03 Showing its age, but the coffee and spices are still present.
2023-06-03 Maybe a bit past it’s prime, but still good. Getting a lot of chocolate. Flavors from the barrel are subtle, but the heat is detectable.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Mon Chéri Stout by Goose Island Beer Co. (2019-08-25) | May 28th, 2023 |
2023-05-28 Still lots of mildly bitter cherry. Not my favorite BC, but still good.
2020-11-15 Has definitely changed a little in the last year. Cherry is still forward, but not overpowering and not too sweet. The dark chocolate and malt come in powerfully after the cherry and linger through the finish, with a little hint of the cherry on the back.
2020-04-25 The cherry flavors kind of resemble similar notes to aged BCBS, but with a bit more sweetness and a touch of tartness. While not my favorite variant, it’s pretty solid.
Drank BQE Coffee Chocolate (2022) by Finback Brewery | May 21st, 2023 |
2023-05-21 Nice coffee flavor with a hint of chocolate at the end. It’s not as thick as most Finback stouts.
Drank 16 oz of Double Nut Caramel (2022) by Finback Brewery (2022) | May 14th, 2023 |
2023-05-14 Lots of hazelnut flavor with a fair bit of sweetness from the caramel. Thoroughly coats the palate and is nice and think. Finishes with some chocolate and a hint of the barrel. Really enjoyable.
Drank 12 oz of CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) by Founders Brewing (2019-10-04) | May 11th, 2023 |
2020-05-09 Lots of sweetness; almost too much. A hint of dark chocolate. Not getting much else flavor-wise. Perhaps when it warms, there will be more.
Drank 16 oz of Proprietor's Bourbon County Brand Stout (2022) by Goose Island Beer Co. (2022-10-05) | May 6th, 2023 |
2024-11-29 Black Friday at HBS. Holding up great.
2023-10-01 Tasting more chocolate than I remember, along with the coconut and pineapple.
2023-05-06 Still love this year’s Prop. The coconut blended with the pineapple just works and neither is overbearing. Plenty of dark chocolate comes shining through and the finish brings back the coconut and pineapple.
2022-12-10 So yummy when it warms up a bit, when the coconut comes out. The pineapple is subtle, as is the lime. At Prop Day, I tasted banana, but not getting much of that from the bottle.
Drank 12 oz of Bourbon Paradise by Prairie Artisan Ales (2019-11-22) | May 2nd, 2023 |
2023-05-02 Holding up very well. Bourbon, vanilla and coconut sweetness, followed by barrel, dark chocolate and roasted malt.
2020-10-28 Not gettin much coconut, if any but the bourbon and roasted malt comes through and is boozy and full flavored.
2019-12-06 Really damn good. Tons of dark chocolate (slightly too bitter), nice smooth coconut & subtle vanilla finish, topped off with bourbon warmth.
Drank 16 oz of Bourbon County Brand Reserve 2-Year Barleywine by Goose Island Beer Co. (2022-07-26) | April 29th, 2023 |
2025-02-01 Still tastes great. Still very boozy in a good way.
2024-01-13 Still tastes great. Can’t wait to try it again in a couple years.
2023-04-29 This is the 3rd time I’ve had this and it’s been amazing every time. Lots of toffee and typical barleywine sweetness, but with more depth and lots of booziness. Can’t wait to taste this after a few years of aging.
2022-12-17 Just as good as I remember on Prop Day. Can’t wait to see what a few years will do to it.
Drank 12 oz of X Ten Year Beer by Revolution Brewing LLC (2020-01-10) | April 23rd, 2023 |
2023-04-23 One of the best Barleywines I’ve had. This one is from January 2020 and is 12.5% ABV. Boozy, sweet, and has depth. |
