Drank 330 ml of Green Gold by Mikkeller (2014) | February 6th, 2015 |
2015-02-06 Sweet caramel and grassy meadow ringed by a pine forest aroma. Pour from bottle does not have much head and is dark amber in colour. Flavour starts out with a sweet caramel, then the hops take over with a lightly grapefruit pithy flavour and a hint of grassy meadow. The finish is bitter on the back of the palate. So good. 8/10
Drank 750 ml of Joe Sent Me by Refined Fool Brewing Company (2014) | January 23rd, 2015 |
2015-01-23 Pour is black with very little head out of the bottle. Aroma is of vanilla and coffee. Flavour is slightly tangy at the front and opens to a dark chocolate flavour with a little sweetness. Not overwhelmingly sweet or roast-bitter. Nicely balanced with a clean finish. 7/10
Drank 750 ml of Sorachi Ace by Brooklyn Brewery (2014) | January 9th, 2015 |
2015-01-09 Cork popped and shot to the ceiling and bounced around and the beer foamed over. Poured with huge foamy head and a sunny golden colour. Aroma is lemony, very gentle clove and banana. Flavour is citrus pith and lemongrass with a pine resinous. Saison yeast flavours are very subdued. Bitterness lingers briefly but finish is clean. Carbonation is extremely effervescent and has a great lifting/scrubbing ability. I would like it a little better if the malt was slightly bolder. 7/10
Drank 500 ml of Russian Gun Imperial Stout by Grand River Brewing (2012-12-18) | January 3rd, 2015 |
2015-01-03 Pours black with minimal head from bottle. Aroma is boozy and roasty with a hint of dark fruit. Flavour is strongly roasty bitterness up front that opens to a malty sweetness with the roast throughout. Finish is slightly bitter but fairly clean. 8/10
Drank 341 ml of Leo's Early Breakfast IPA by Brasserie Dunham | January 1st, 2015 |
2015-01-01 Aroma is citrusy and grassy hop, colour is golden and head is generous. Flavour is caramel and pithy hops. Bitter finish. I paired it with a pancake and bacon breakfast so the sweetness of the pairing didn't benefit the beer. On it's own it was very delicious. 7/10.
Drank 500 ml of La Colborne by Microbrasserie Le Naufrageur (2014-03-12) | December 31st, 2014 |
2014-12-31 Delicious! Aromas of caramel and a slight earthiness? Typical sweetness with a light hop balance typical of red ale. Really well balanced, very delicious. 9/10.
Drank 750 ml of Unibroue 17 Grande Reserve by Unibroue (2011) | December 28th, 2014 |
2014-12-28 Pours slightly hazy chestnut colour with a large dense head. Aroma is boozy and caramel and fruit, plum? Red wine? Flavours are also boozy, fruity (fig, plum) and caramel, tiny bit of burnt caramel flavour. Very mild hop that comes across as tannic. 8/10.
Drank 22 oz of Dad's Little Helper by Rogue Ales | December 26th, 2014 |
2014-12-26 lovely grapefruity citrus hops in the nose. Colour is dark brown with some light penetration and head pours from the bottle light tan. Lacing sticks around. Pithy hop character with a light roast and a resiny bitterness in the finish. 8/10 Tasty but very bitter in the finish.
Drank 330 ml of Samichlaus Classic by Schloss Eggenberg (2012) | December 25th, 2014 |
2014-12-25 Aroma is boozy and fruity. Vinous qualities with strong alcohol character. Flavour is smooth and rich and sweet caramel and warming all the way down. 9/10
Drank 650 ml of Black Hops by Parallel 49 Brewing Co. | December 13th, 2014 |
2014-12-13 Piney hops in the nose, colour is actually deep brown with red highlights. Flavour starts out slightly sweet then rolls into a mild hop bitterness and finishes with a lovely mild roasty bitterness. Vaguely molasses coffee flavours. 6/10 - This beer is no longer brewed.
Drank 500 ml of Weendigo by Forked River Brewing Company (2014) | December 12th, 2014 |
2014-12-12 2014-Gentle bourbon and molasses aroma, head pours very dark and thick with some chunky bubbles in the centre from the bottle. Flavour is sweet and full and roasty, bourbon flavour is mild, not overpowering. Finish is slightly roast-bitter and slightly boozy but not hot. Doesn't seem like it's got too much complexity yet, can't wait to see how it develops. 8/10
