Drank 22 oz of Brew Labs #4 Amber Lager With Habanero Pepper And Mango by Weston Brewing CompanySeptember 9th, 2015
2015-09-09
22OZ bomber, no bottling date (but if this was truly brewed only once, and the earliest review is dated in 2011, then perhaps it is about 4 years old). Good carbonation. Pours a cloudy, amber color, with a nice off-white head that lasts. Not much aroma, but after taking in a few breaths I can smell the alcohol. Very nice mouth-feel: creamy and well balanced. The taste is solid, something like a quality ale, and amazingly there is a subtle but distinctive 'bite' I feel at the back of my throat (which must be from the habanero flavoring). Overall, this a beer that is easy easy too drink, and for $4 a bomber, well worth it to try a 'chili style' beer. Furthermore, this is a beer I would gladly buy and drink again.
Drank 12 oz of Northwind Imperial Stout by Two Brothers Brewing (2015-01)September 5th, 2015
2015-09-05
12oz bottle, lot # 0155. Pours very dark brown, with a khaki head that doesn't stick around long. Aroma of coffee, with a some chocolate and a bit of booze. Medium body. Some malt, sweetness, and perhaps a bit of hops in the flavor. Russian imperial stouts are perhaps my favorite style; this one does nothing to stand out from the others, but it does seem to be well balanced. And, as this is one of the least expensive Russian imperial stouts I have found, it's not a bad beer for the price. I hope to buy a few more to cellar and see how it is with another year or two on it.
Drank 22 oz of Le Freak Belgian Style IPA by Green Flash Brewing Co. (2015)September 5th, 2015
2015-09-05
(After having had it twice over two days): Look - good. Smell - good. Taste - interesting. Feel - good. Overall - weird, yet interesting; I liked it, glad I tried it, but I will probably not buy it again: I judge the Belgium yeast flavors did not mix very well with the hops.
Drank 22 oz of Green Flash Trippel by Green Flash Brewing Co.September 5th, 2015
2015-09-05
Bottling date: unknown. Decent carbonation when opened; pours a golden, orange-yellow color, with a small amount of head; fruity aroma (not the kind I care for), with a little bit of malt; excellent mouth-feel--it feels very alive on my tongue; good flavor, with no weird or off flavors: it seems well balanced, and has a smooth finish. I am still learning about how Belgium's taste, and some I don't care for, so this one gave me a pleasant surprise. It reminds me somewhat of a barley wine. I liked this beer (my SO liked it as well), and I would definitely get it again.
Drank 22 oz of Rejewvenator by Shmaltz Brewing Company (2014)August 31st, 2015
2015-08-31
(Copied from RB) Aroma of caramel; appears amber, hazy; taste medium sourness, medium bitterness, medium sweetness, medium body with average carbonation. A lot going on in this beer, much of it may be lost on me, and I don’t care for the sour notes, but for $2 this bomber is certainly a bargain. I am wiling to get this one again at some other time.
Drank 12 oz of Mission Street India Pale Ale by Trader Joe's Brewing CompanyAugust 31st, 2015
2015-08-31
(copied from RB) Lots of flavor (bitter) in this beer. I had this side-by-side with a Mission St. Pale Ale, and I liked the stronger, bitter flavor in the IPA better: big surprise. This is a solid IPA.
Drank 12 oz of Mission Street Pale Ale by Trader Joe's Brewing CompanyAugust 31st, 2015
2015-08-31
(Copied from RB) I like this beer, as it is clearly smooth and has plenty of flavor. However, when trying it side-by-side with the Mission Street IPA, this one lacks the flavor punch I look for in an ale. Still, a good beer.
Drank 22 oz of Ale of the Hermit by Hermitage Brewing CompanyAugust 31st, 2015
2015-08-31
(copied from my RB review, and modified) 500ml bottle, bought on sale; pours a beautiful golden color, somewhat cloudy, and it has a gorgeous hard: very creamy. It has almost no aroma. When tasting, my first thought was: this beer is past it’s prime (probably why it was on sale), but it seems to have an average amount of flavor for an imperial IPA: a decent amount of hops and malt. I do like the mouth feel of the beer. Overall: I like Imperial IPA's, and this is what I would consider to be an average one.
Drank 22 oz of Barleywine Style Ale by Green Flash Brewing Co. (2012)August 31st, 2015
2015-08-31
22oz., 2012 vintage acquired on sale. Good carbonation when opened (from fridge); pours beautifully into my snifter, with a hazy, orange-brown, color, and a nice light-orange colored head. Fruits and a bit of malt in the aroma, and quite a bit of alcohol. Taste is very sweet, and it amazingly--considering it is three years old--still has a good amount of hop flavor. I think I like it better cooler rather than warmer (there's plenty of flavor even when it's cold). It tastes a lot like the other barley wines I have had (mostly young ones), but this one is perhaps a bit smoother (as I would expect for being three years old). This is a very enjoyable sipper; barley wines are one of my favorite beer styles, and I would be more than happy to share this delicious barley wine with others.
Drank 12 oz of Cast Iron Oatmeal Brown by 4 Hands Brewing Co.August 30th, 2015
2015-08-30
12oz can. Poured dark brown with a nice light-brown head. Not much to the aroma (although my glass was chilled, and this can impact the aroma). Some good flavor: nutty, and some grains. I am not a big fan of brown ales, but this was a pleasant one; although I wouldn't buy it again, I would happily drink it again, if offered one.
Drank 12 oz of Modus Hoperandi by Ska Brewing Company (2015-06)August 29th, 2015
2015-08-29
12OZ can; fresh; pours a murky orange-brown color, with a beautiful, frothy, light-yellowish head; decent amount of citrus in aroma; very sparky flavor, with lots of pop, and a lingering bitterness. I really like this beer, as it has tons of flavor, yet, near the end of it, I start to feel the bitterness is perhaps a little too much. Still, this is an IPA I would be happy to drink just about anytime.
Drank 12 oz of Strawberry Harvest Lager by Abita Brewing CompanyAugust 29th, 2015
2015-08-29
Bought on sale, and so it was probably old; Poured a light strawberry-yellow color, with a white-ish head; I could taste the fruit first, then the wheat, in the flavor. I didn't care for the wheat in the flavor. Nothing stands out about this beer to me.
Drank Other of Prize Old Ale by George Gale & Company (2005)August 29th, 2015
2015-08-29
2005 vintage. Nice looking little bottle with a cork. It was fun using the corkscrew to open it. This was one of the strangest beers I have tried yet. There was no carbonation; it poured a muddy, hazy brown, with no head. Lots of sour in the aroma, and some malt, with a bit of booziness. I tried it not long out of the fridge, and also tried it when it warmed up. It wasn't too bad cool, making it drinkable but the sour flavors seem to be more present when warm, and I am not of fan of sour flavors in beer. I think I get the 'old ale' flavor from other old ales I have had (Founder's Curmudgeon) , but this one has too many sours flavors thrown in the mix (the clerk who sold it to me basically said it has an unusual mix of sour flavors). Perhaps it is an acquired taste, but at the moment I don't like it. Still, I'm glad I tried it. I have seen even older versions out there (1997), and I may still want to try those, someday ...
Drank 22 oz of Anchor Zymaster Series No. 6: Saaremaa Island Ale by Anchor BrewingAugust 29th, 2015
2015-08-29
22oz; Forsyth W&CP; bought 08-2015; bottled in 2014?; I bought this on sale, as it was a little old. Right away, I could see it was not a beer I would care for, as the aroma and the look seems similar like a typical, commercially made lager (although the aroma is nice and strong). I get some fruit in the flavor, and some malt, but again, it reminds me of a typical lager.
Drank 500 ml of Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen by Brauerei Heller-Trum / SchlenkerlaAugust 28th, 2015
2015-08-28
500ml bottle bought on sale (I couldn't find a date on the bottle, but I assume it was at least a little old). Reasonable carbonation when opening. Poured a dark brown, with a beautiful foamy light-brown head. I could smell smoke in the aroma, and I could taste the smoke in the beer as well. It was a decent tasting German beer, and I liked the smoke in the flavor. I enjoyed drinking it for the first few sips, but then I found myself drinking it simply because it was the only beer in front of me at the moment. It turns out, I decide not to finish it. It tasted a little old, and so my guess is it would taste better fresh. I had the dopplebock version of this beer earlier this summer, and I liked that one much better.
